The Department of Community Services serves all residents of Harrison with many programs and services, providing direct assistance with specific needs, and acting as a liaison between public and private agencies, civic and religious organizations and Harrison residents. All information received or discussed in this office is kept confidential.

This office receives referrals from doctors, hospitals, schools, churches and synagogues, other agencies, and concerned Harrison residents. We welcome your inquiries or suggestions of friends or neighbors who might need help.

NUTRITION PROGRAMS:

FOOD PANTRY - We distribute and deliver bags of food to low income Harrison families, singles and Senior Citizens the last week of each month.  The Food Pantry also coordinates a Food and Gift-Giving Program for any Harrison residents who need assistance during the holidays.

MEALS ON WHEELS - (Florence D'Imperio, Coordinator)
Volunteers deliver a nutritionally sound hot and cold meals, five days a week to the homebound, ill and elderly residents of Harrison. We offer regular, Low/Sodium and diabetic diets. Cost is $7.00 per day. Volunteers are always needed. To volunteer or for further information, call Florence D'Imperio 670-3027.

For transportation to and from the Senior Center or for medical appointments call 914-670-3027.  Transportation is available Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 9:00am to 1:30pm

SAFETY AND OUTREACH PROGRAMS

Police saftey checks.  Once a day Harrison police officers check on the elderly who are alone or ill.  Please call 670-3026 to enroll or for more information.
