Court Sessions are held in the courtroom at the Municipal Building every Friday for Criminal matters and usually the first, fourth and fifth Tuesday of the month for Civil matters and Traffic violations. Court also is in session one Wednesday evening, monthly for Civil matters. Cases are heard by the presiding Justice. Jury trials occur more frequently now than in the past, because the Court handles a greater number of cases. Local residents are called to serve as Jurors. Trials last from one to three days.

The Court has jurisdiction in Civil cases up to a value of $3,000. You or the party you wish to sue must reside in Harrison. If you reside in Harrison, you may sue anyone residing or having their place of business in Westchester County. Filing fee is $20.00 and the Summons must be served. A Town Constable is available to perform this service for a fee the amount of which is dependent upon the location of service.

Town Justices preside in Small Claims Court in cases having a value up to $3000.00.
The party you wish to sue must reside or have their place of business in the Town of
Harrison. Filing fee is $10.00 for claims up to $1,000.00. For claims from $1,001 .00
to $3,000.00 the filing fee is $15.00. Service is by First Class and Certified Mail.

The Court hears Criminal Cases where the maximum sentence is up to one year in
jail and the fine up to $1,000.00. The crime must have been committed in Harrison.
Moving traffic violations are frequently disposed of by mail or personal appearance. Traffic trials are held on Tuesdays and when necessary Fridays and Wednesday evenings. The violation must have taken place in Harrison. Traffic violations that go unanswered for 60 days after last adjournment will result in notification to the State Department of Motor Vehicles which suspends the driver’s license and privilege to operate a motor vehicle in New York State until the violation is answered. Most States are members of a “compact agreement.” Your license can be suspended by your home state if you fail to respond to a summons issued by a member.

The Court has their own “in house” computer system for parking violations. If car's owner, fail to answer (either in person or by mail) a parking summons, the Court imposes escalating penalties. With the cooperation of the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles, the Court is able to designate as “Scofflaw” a person with three or more outstanding parking summonses acquired within an 18 month period.
